Brownfields Recovery Corporation was formed in 1996 as a partnership between Environmental Reclamation Inc. (ERI), an environmental engineering firm, and Mugar Enterprises Inc., a privately held firm with more than 30 years of real estate development and management expertise.

In 1990, Mugar Enterprises' sale of a large shopping mall was jeopardized due to contamination that had migrated onto the site from an adjacent property. To address this problem and similar environmental issues at other Mugar properties, David Mugar, Chairman of Mugar Enterprises Inc. founded ERI to service Mugar Enterprises' expanding real estate portfolio.

Over the next several years, Mr. Mugar recognized a growing need within the real estate development community for reliable and cost-effective solutions to the cleanup and productive reuse of environmentally impacted properties. Combining the real estate expertise of Mugar Enterprises Inc. and the remediation expertise of ERI, Brownfields Recovery Corporation was formed for the purpose of acquiring, remediating and redeveloping environmentally impacted properties.
